Meet StephenF. Kiely

Stephen F. Kiely, 48, was raised in Brookhaven Town, lived in Southampton, and is a 15-year resident of Southold, where he and his wife are raising their four children.

He spent his youth crabbing, fishing, swimming, boating, and exploring the coastlines and woodlands of Sag Harbor, and North Haven, while spending time with his Grandparents and Great Uncles.

Family has always been central to his life and has instilled in him the virtue of public service.  He comes from a military family as his maternal grandmother was one of the first Lady Marines who served in WW2, along side her brothers and Stephen's grandfather.  His paternal grandfather was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for his heroism in WW2 and his father served in the Korean War.  Additionally, he was raised in a law enforcement family as his grandfather, father, and brother were all Police Officers.

He has been an east end land use and criminal attorney for 20 years and is currently the Shelter Island Town Attorney, Mattituck Park District Attorney, and a member of the East End Justice Court Assigned Counsel Program. Additionally, he has been a municipal lawyer for the Towns of Southampton, Southold, and Brookhaven, as well as the Villages of Greenport and Westhampton Dunes. In those roles he wrote and enforced a host of local laws.

He is a member of the Mattituck Laurel Civic Association and a
former Mattituck Chamber of Commerce Board member. He is also a CYO Basketball and PAL
Lacrosse coach.

why i'm running

"I am extremely proud and humbled to announce that I received the Suffolk County Republican and Conservative Nominations to run for the New York State Assembly District #1, encompassing the crown jewels of the State of New York: Southold, Southampton, Shelter Island, East Hampton, and the easternmost portion of Brookhaven.

I am eager to relentlessly champion our shared East End vision on the floor of the New York State Capitol, including the protection and preservation of home rule against gubernatorial and progressive state legislative overreach seeking to urbanize and overdevelop our communities.

I seek to serve as a bulwark between our cherished farmland, parks, beaches, and small towns and those who are advocating for high density housing development.

Further, as the East End is not immune to the creeping crime problem, I will push to reevaluate and amend the dubious criminal justice reforms and advocate for the revocation of the ill-conceived Sanctuary State executive order.

A common-sense attorney, schooled in the drafting and interpreting of laws, with a healthy respect for constitutional restraints, and well versed on the issues of every municipality within the district, is exactly what is needed at this time to address our housing, crime, migrant, drug, education and environmental crises."
